One of my stories makes a contest’s short list in a field of 1,400

The Pupfish of Miracle Spring made the short list in the End of Our World writing contest.

I’m thrilled to report what I consider to be one of my best successes on the writing contest circuit. My short story, The Pupfish of Miracle Spring, made the short list of ten finalists in The End of Our World contest, managed by Aftermath Magazine, which is based in The Netherlands. The contest drew more than 1,400 entrants from around the world. I didn’t win any prizes, but just given the numerical odds, it’s amazing that I made it to the top ten.

The editors published my story, along with the other winners on the Aftermath website. I also received a small payment, which is an accomplishment in itself, due to the nature of genre publishing these days. I’m grateful to the editors and I congratulate the winners!

I’m entering more contests with my climate change-themed stories and other speculative fiction. Pupfish was awarded a Silver Honorable Mention in the Writers of the Future Contest in the second quarter of 2017. I was also awarded a Writers of the Future Honorable Mention in Q2 2017 for my novelette, The Mother Earth Insurgency. You can download it for free.
