Inspired by tradition & myth
Like many readers, I was captivated by Arthurian legends through T.H. White’s The Once and Future King and John Boorman’s Excalibur. These timeless stories felt more compelling than other King Arthur books. As a science fiction writer focused on climate change themes, I wondered: how could I combine Arthurian legend with environmental disaster? My solution was projecting these characters a thousand years into the future—an approach few writers have attempted. After extensive research using sources such as Arthurian Myth & Legend and Professor Dorsey Armstrong’s Great Courses lecture series, I created the Future History of the Grail trilogy: Fall of the Green Land, War for the Green Land, and Return of the Green Land.
Future History Book 1
Fall of the Green Land (Book 1) – Sir Percival Rathkeale, the red-haired knight of Viridiae, the Green Land, seeks the Grail, a powerful device critical to the survival of his king, his country, and the planet. Merlin, the king’s chief science advisor, discovers new clues to the sacred Grail’s location. The king appoints Sir Percival to a new expedition to find the Grail. With Sirs Galahad and Bors, and Dame Lancelot du Lac, the strongest warrior in the land, Percival sails for the island of Koda, where he faces dark forces determined to oppose his mission and usurp the king. Will Percival find the Grail, restore his country, and save the world?
Future History Book 2
War for the Green Land (Book 2) – Red-haired Sir Percival and ailing King Arturus, captured after the Battle of the River Colum, face slavery in the Lucian Empire. Victorious General Robert Dardarius forces thousands of Viridian captives on a death march to the Lucian capital, but he offers Arturus a deal: Turn over information about the Viridian Grail, and he will stop his invasion of Viridiae and its capital, Camelot. Merlin appears in the Lucian capital with something better, a second Grail. Percival, Arturus, and Merlin escape the Lucians, but when they reach the reorganized Viridian army under Mordred Lothian, a new battle with the Lucians takes shape. Will Percival restore the true Grail to the Green Land and face down the Lucian threat?

Return to the Green Land (Book 3) – Red-haired Sir Percival, distraught at his failures and accusations against him of cowardice, takes on a new quest to redeem himself. A dying King Arturus asks him to travel to the Hot Lands in search of the Last Grail, the final chance to repair the machine that protects Viridiae’s climate. Percival’s twin sister Dee, a rising tapestry artist, accompanies the expedition to the ruined city of Cassanti. They discover the Last Grail guarded by a priestess, who agrees to hand the device to Percival. But the price she demands could cost Dee her life. Will Dee risk everything to help Percival achieve the Grail? And will the device, if found, return the Green Land to its former health and beauty?
