A Screenplay Milestone: Five Scripts Complete the First Phase of My Portfolio

About a year and a half ago, I dove into the world of screenplays. Up to that point, I’d focused my creative energies on novels and short stories, primarily with climate change themes. But I could feel the well running dry, and the need for a new direction. I’d long been a fan of crime dramas. I count among my favorite movies Chinatown, The Godfather (all parts), and L.A. Confidential. I’d also fallen in love with detective film noir, such as The Big Sleep and The Maltese Falcon.

As I started working on a new novel with crime at its core, I wondered if it might work as a screenplay. That led to my first script, which evolved into one of five I wrote to create a portfolio of work that could be pitched to studios, producers, agents, and others.

Here’s a list of my five feature-length screenplays, with their loglines. All have received positive coverage from professional readers, such as Script Reader Pro. You can download and read the screenplays by becoming a member of Stage 32, an online community of motion picture creatives. (Membership is free.)

The Gods Demand Blood – In a city overrun by criminal chaos, where an aggressive police captain battles a murderous Russian mobster, only one man can remain standing, but at a terrible cost to both.

The Brothers O’Neill – As the Seattle waterfront seethes with revolution, a beat cop struggles to understand his brother’s underground life, while identifying the powerful man behind the murder of his snitch.

Doomer – After a domestic terrorist takes hostages on a freeway, an ex-Army cop helps the President of the United States thwart the terrorist’s plan to finance a coup with a billion dollars in stolen gold.

The Red Feather – In 1962, a homicide detective re-assigned to a vice unit targeting gay men finds rampant corruption and unearths a conspiracy to hide his brother’s murder.

The Angry Road – A nurse practitioner with a checkered past relocates to her hometown, where she investigates a spate of road rage incidents, and discovers a corporate conspiracy putting her patients’ lives at risk.

I have more projects in development, and I’ve written other screenplays, but these are my best work, at least for now. In future blog posts, I’ll share the synopsis for each of these screenplays.
